As a total novice I was unfamiliar with a lot of the ‘Jargon’ but Steve took time to explain all this very clearly. A very useful course

If you’re limited for time or unsure if a full day workshop is for you, why not join me on a half day ‘Taster’ workshop at Whinlatter Forest Visitor Centre? This beautiful woodland environment is a perfect setting in which to ‘dip your toe’ into the world of landscape photography.

These two hour workshops are suitable for all the family (children under 16yrs must be accompanied) and commence at 10.00 and 14.00 on each date specified below.

After introductions we’ll go out onto the forest and visit a series of nearby locations to explore different elements and techniques of landscape photography. We’ll have opportunities to look at composition, exposure, exploring the relationship between ISO, shutter speed and aperture settings, getting to grips with your histogram and a host of other quick tips and techniques which I hope will whet your appetite to dig further into landscape photography. We’ll return to the centre where we’ll review the session and address any outstanding questions.

A ‘Taster’ workshop will cost just £25.00 per person.

Whinlatter ‘Taster’ sessions for 2025 are as follows:

  • 29th March - 10am - 12noon and 2pm - 4pm.

  • 28th June - 10am - 12noon and 2pm - 4pm.

  • 2nd August - Family friendly ‘Taster’ - 10am - 12noon (suitable for children and accompanying adults). 2pm - 4pm additional ‘Taster’ workshop.

  • 22nd November - 10am - 12noon and 2pm - 4pm.

Our ‘Taster’ workshops involve walking into the forest on well maintained forest tracks (approx 2 miles). If you have any questions or specific mobility/access concerns please get in touch using the button below.

Refreshments - you are welcome to bring your own or better still, use the on-site cafe Ambio where you’ll get a great choice of food and drinks in a wonderful and relaxing forest environment.

Want to book but can’t make the date? Use the button below to arrange a workshop to suit you.

Some points to note:

1 - It would be really helpful for you to get to know your camera settings before the workshop. This will help you get the most from your session although I am, of course, available to help with any issues that arise during our time together.

2 - Please remember to bring strong footwear, waterproofs and clothing suitable for the weather and time of year. Your camera equipment including a tripod if you have one, a notebook and please remember to fully charge your batteries and/or bring spares! You might want to carry a drink with you.
