Bluebell woodland sunrise, Cumbria.
Steve Blake Photography
Welcome,
I am a Cumbria based landscape photographer with over 40 years experience. My photographic values are simple - to ensure that the image is a true representation of the scene at the moment of capture. To achieve this, I keep my use of filters to a minimum and will often return to a scene repeatedly in order to catch the right light. I will not create an image on a computer that I wish I had seen for real. For me, this is the essence of landscape photography.
Each of my photographs hold a special memory of my time in the landscape. Each greeting card and print is the result of a personal adventure of discovery and triumph. Often the journey to the photograph is far from straight forward - difficult terrain, inclement weather and unpredictable lighting conditions all combine to make landscape photography - often frustrating but always fulfilling.
My lifelong passion for landscape photography is intrinsically linked to the joy I get from being alone in wild places, amongst a unique and diversely created landscape. It is indeed my firm belief in a creator God, that inspires me to use photography as a means of celebrating and appreciating the natural beauty around us. It’s this belief that gives me a sense of ‘never being alone’ - I simply photograph what I am shown.
